The 93 Jammers Gold faced Gaston United Blue in the last game of their season in a winner takes all encounter as the winners of the match would secure promotion to NCYSA Premier flight. The Jammers came into the match one point ahead of Gaston, as the Jammers held a record of 5-1-2, while Gaston United was undefeated at 4-0-4.
With the table set, the teams kicked off at 5pm on Saturday April 11th at Westchester Country Day School. Both teams came out with a high intensity and the teams battled back and forth in the beginning of the match. However, once the nerves settled, the Jammers began to win the 50/50 balls and started to put pressure on Gaston's back four with direct balls over the top. About twenty minutes into the match, the Jammers took the lead when Ethan Massey slotted a shot in the right corner of the net. This lead was short lived, as Gaston quickly struck back less than 5 minutes later with a goal of their own.The two teams went into half time knotted at 1 -1.
The second half started off with Gaston having a quality chance that Brad Davis pushed aside. After that, the game continued with the Jammers having the better of the play and with 15 minutes remaining in the match, Matt Crooker found Edgar Rodriguez's head on the end of a free kick from about 20 yards out to put the Jammers 2-1 up. Head Coach Denis Byrne who has been instrumental to the team’s success this year tightened up the Jammers in order to defend their lead to earn the win and a promotion to the Premier Division. The Jammers travel to Julian Brown the weekend of April 18 and 19th and then kick off in the State Cup on May 2nd in Burlington.
