94 Lady Jammers Gold Take the Silver at 2009 Disney Cup International Youth Soccer Tournament
The 94 Lady Jammers Gold traveled down to Disney World on July 14 – 19 to compete in the 2009 Disney Cup International Youth Soccer Tournament and came away with 2nd place in the U14 Girls division.
The first game was Tuesday afternoon in the blistering heat against a fired-up Mako (Florida) team and the Jammers came away with a 1 – 1 draw. Mako scored first at the 16 minute mark but with about 1 minute left in the game Kat Andrews crossed it to Megan Klebosis who put it in the goal.
The second game was against the Krush Academy White (another Florida team). Both teams struggled in the first half but Kat Andrews scored at the 31 minute mark to put the Jammers up for good. The Krush team picked up the pace in the second half with several shots on goal but the Jammers defense and goalie (Katie Smith) were up to the task and shut them out. The final score was 1 – 0 in favor of the Jammers.
The third game was against the undefeated and bracket leading Westside SC Eagles. The Jammers started off quickly and Maddy Myers scored at the 7 minute mark on a free kick from the left corner. Hannah Brookbank scored next for the Jammers at the 17 minute mark with a cannon shot from the right. The Eagles scored on a PK at the 26 minute mark to make it close but Kat Andrews added a goal after halftime to make the final 3 – 1 in favor of the Jammers.
In the fourth game the Jammers took on the Lafayette Force team from Louisiana and came up on the short end of a 0 – 1 decision. The lone score was on a Penalty Kick that bounced off our goalie and a Force player was there to put it in the goal. After the halftime break the Jammers came out and had several opportunities to score but could not finish the shot. This put them in the finals
In the final game the Jammers again played the Mako team and at the end of regulation play the score was tied at 0 – 0 so play went into two 10 minute overtime periods. No one scored in the first overtime period but in the second overtime period with about 4 minutes left the Mako team was able to score off a cornerkick to make the final score 1 – 0 in their favor.
Due to the bracket arrangements the Westside SC Eagles took 1st and the Lady Jammers Gold took 2nd in the U14 Girls Division.
