The Lady Jammers Blue had their best outing of the season at the Greensboro Adidas Challenge Clash tournament over the weekend of November 22/23. The Jammers have been improving all season and their hard work culminated in four well fought games with 2 wins.
In their opening game vs. Havelock Fury the Jammers played great but went down 2-0 to the eventual tournament winner. The second match, against tournament hosts GYS Twisters United. This game saw the girls secure their first win of the season with Katie Romberg leading the team to victory to a 4-1 with 2 goals and 1 assist. Coley Saia and Rebekka Largen played excellent in goal, playing with intensity and focus to keep their team in the lead.
Day two would see the Jammers play twice again as they were in a five team group. The Lady Jammers fought hard against the team from Whiteville, losing in the last 2 minutes of play for a final score of 1-2. The Jammers second match of the day was against GCCSA Lady Cobras West. This game showed the true heart of the U12 Lady Jammers Blue. In the opening 10 minutes one of the teams top goal scores, Alexis Shuttle was injured and unable to return. Later in the half with the game tied 1-1 Jammers central defender and team leader Nicky Baggett, was also injured in a collision with two other players leaving the Jammers with no subs and the majority of the game to play. However the Lady Jammers pulled together and fought hard and in the second half pulled ahead with a perfectly placed shot from 5 yards outside the box from Lauren Culler. The Jammers determination meant they came away with a 2-1 victory, clinching 3rd place.
This was great weekend of soccer, these girls have worked very hard this fall and the spirit they showed over the weekend was first class and can only act as a spring board for the team’s future.
